Australian air Express (AaE) expands its reach in Far North Queensland
Australian air Express (AaE) today announced an agreement with Queensland-based MacAir Airlines which will see AaE further expand its express air freight services in regional and far north Queensland.
The deal gives AaE exclusive access to cargo space on MacAir passenger flights from Townsville to Mt Isa, as well as other MacAir passenger routes connecting major hubs in north Queensland including Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Burketown and Mornington Island.
The benefits of the new deal will include increased access to express freight services for people in remote areas of Queensland and because AaE is part of the Qantas freight network, MacAir passengers will have greater access to excess baggage and animal freight services to and from Qantas and Jetstar passenger services.
Speaking today, AaE’s Chief Executive Officer Wayne Dunne said that he was delighted with the new agreement and believes that the deal for exclusive access to cargo space on MacAir passenger services will offer a range of benefits to businesses and consumers based in regional and north Queensland.
“As the largest provider of express air freight services in Australia, this agreement with MacAir will enable AaE to further its reach by air into remote and regional areas. This will bring benefits to customers and consumers, particularly through extending the air freight network for time-critical freight such as pathology and medical supplies, perishable goods and the movement of daily newspapers from major capitals such as Brisbane.”
As a joint venture between Australia Post and Qantas, AaE has exclusive access to over 500 Qantas flights daily and is the only express freight carrier that provides delivery direct to the Australia Post network.
MacAir’s Managing Director, Randal McFarlane, notes that AaE was selected after a thorough review process for its ability to grow this important facet of MacAir’s business.
“As our business continues to grow, so too does the opportunity for the development of our freight services. AaE were able to meet the continuing growth needs of our business, and those of the 30 communities we service throughout Queensland.”
AaE has a history of commitment to the business community in north Queensland, working closely with commercial clients to ensure tailored freight management solutions. Earlier this year, AaE launched its new upgraded B737 service linking Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane to all major Australian capitals.
Over 40 people are engaged by AaE at its Cairns and Townsville depots.
